Cacahuananche Botanical Scalp Wash
A Guerrero-inspired scalp wash exploring a traditional hair-care plant through modern formulation.

The personal inspiration
Cacahuananche gives this project an especially meaningful connection to my family roots in Guerrero. Historical records document its use in hair soap, including work concerning cacahuananche soap in Ciudad Altamirano. I want to honour that regional story through a contemporary, gentle scalp ritual.
“Roots are more than where we come from. They are the living memory that continues to nourish us.”
Maria Drury
The botanical direction
Cacahuananche is the featured Mexican botanical. I am exploring supporting botanicals for scalp comfort alongside the mild cleansing system needed for a true wash. Their identities, supporting surfactants and proportions remain private during development.
The purpose I am exploring
My goal is a satisfying wash that leaves the scalp and hair feeling clean and comfortable while reconnecting an everyday ritual with the plant knowledge of Guerrero. Performance and suitability still need to be demonstrated.
Questions guiding the next stage
- How can the botanical identity and regional history of cacahuananche be documented accurately?
- Which mild cleansing system gives reliable performance without losing the botanical character?
- How will pH, preservation, scalp tolerance and stability be assessed?
Notebook entry compiled October 2026 from Maria Drury’s account and the records identified above. Dates of original experiments are only listed when recorded.
