My personal approach to ingredients

I believe that what we put on our skin deserves the same care and attention as what we choose to eat. In my own beauty routine, I am drawn to simple, gentle products and thoughtfully chosen natural ingredients.

This is a guiding philosophy rather than a literal rule. A food ingredient is not automatically suitable for skin, and even a beautiful botanical needs to be understood within the complete formula.

Hydration through the day

Skin care also begins away from the bathroom shelf. Drinking water regularly through the day supports normal body function, and our needs can increase with heat, activity, breastfeeding or illness. Water is the simplest everyday choice.

I also enjoy exploring a refreshing drink made with water, a little apple cider vinegar and a small touch of Celtic sea salt. I think of it as a personal flavour ritual, not as a necessary electrolyte drink or a treatment. Added salt is not appropriate for everyone, and acidic drinks can affect teeth or irritate the digestive system. Anyone trying it should keep it well diluted, avoid frequent sipping and rinse the mouth with plain water afterwards.

A gentle external routine

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends choosing moisturisers to suit your skin. Creams and ointments are generally richer than lotions, and applying moisturiser after washing, while skin is still damp, can help reduce water loss.

My developing cacao body balm is intended to become more than a product: a small personal-care ritual, a moment of comfort and an invitation to pause. It remains in development and is not presented as a treatment for dry skin.

Understanding the skin barrier

Skin provides an important protective barrier. Some substances can pass through it and may reach the bloodstream, but absorption varies with the substance, concentration, contact time, exposed area and condition of the skin. This is why natural origin and responsible finished-formula assessment belong together.

Know when to ask for help

If dryness becomes painful, cracked, bleeding, stinging or very irritating, arrange a review with a qualified health professional. Persistent symptoms deserve attention beyond choosing another balm.
