Begin with a little curiosity

For a short, optional practice, sit comfortably and notice the contact of your feet with the ground. Let your breathing stay natural. If your mind wanders, notice that and return to a sensation that feels comfortable. There is no need to force a particular experience.

What research can tell us

The US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health describes promising findings for some meditation and mindfulness practices, while noting that research quality and results vary. Evidence about a structured programme cannot automatically be applied to every short meditation exercise.

Keep it personal

Meditation is not comfortable for everyone. If a practice increases distress, stop and seek suitable support. It should complement appropriate care, rather than delay it.

Our starting point is simple: explore gently, notice your response, and leave room to change your approach.
